Dear Families,
What a fun week we had in TK/K with a little elf magic sprinkled in! Today an elf named Jingle somehow Zoomed into our Circle Time to recommend the read-aloud and kicked me out of the meeting with my suddenly poor internet connection. Thankfully I was able to make it back on and regain control!
This week we learned about the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, which will be December 21st. I encourage you to celebrate the solstice in your families by lighting the lanterns we made, making wishes for the world, singing our lantern song, and celebrating the returning daylight with the first day of winter! I also hope you'll be able to drive by the school tonight anytime between 5-7pm to see the Festival of Lights! Our native trees will be on display with student wishes. Because of the high case count in the county, only a small handful of staff members are permitted to be present in cars to help facilitate, one being Ms. Tami. I plan to drive by with my pup and little guy.
I'm sitting on a re-opening committee with parents and other staff members to help work through some of the hurdles with reopening. It's hard to believe we're already 81 days into this school year. Despite the challenge of teaching and learning online, I think we're all trying to make the best of a challenging situation and I want to thank you for your patience and the support you give your child/ren to help make their learning experience as successful and meaningful as possible. To help with getting materials set up with students each morning, I'll be sharing the daily schedule the night before class.
We hope you were able to join the Reader's Theater production of "Mother Goose Interrupted" starring our Superintendent Matthew Morgan! It was our first all school assembly and ran a little long for kids in our age range, but I hope you found it fun and playful if you tuned in!
Your children may continue to use their Chromebooks to access LEXIA and Epic during the break! Students are learning that if they tap the green "finish the book" button, they are beginning to earn points. Today on Zoom I shared that a few students have already read to or listened to HUNDREDS of stories, stories they would never have been exposed to without this amazing digital resource! I see a reading challenge on Epic emerging with reading week this next March!
Happy Holidays,
Allie
